Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai has stirred a major political controversy with his recent remarks on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, calling into question the CM’s ideological stance, governance record, and political integrity. His comments, which quickly went viral on social media, have become a hot topic in state and national political circles, drawing sharp reactions from both the ruling TDP and opposition parties.
“No Ideology, No Values” — Sardesai’s Stinging Critique
In a televised panel discussion that has since been widely shared online, Sardesai made bold and critical statements against Naidu, alleging that the CM lacks a clear ideology and values, and that he uses secularism only when it suits his political interests. It’s more about survival than principle,” Sardesai said.
He pointed to Naidu’s current alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, contrasting it with Naidu’s strong criticism of Modi and the BJP before the 2019 general elections.
“Naidu once called Modi undemocratic and authoritarian. Today, he’s praising Modi as a visionary leader. What changed — ideology or political convenience?” Sardesai questioned.
He went on to criticize Naidu’s decisions during his previous tenure as Chief Minister, stating that several of them badly impacted Andhra Pradesh’s development, with long-term consequences still being felt today.
Sardesai didn’t stop there. He also raised alarm over the current political environment in Andhra Pradesh, calling it harmful to democracy and warning that the present course could further weaken democratic institutions in the state.
Unsurprisingly, Sardesai’s remarks did not go down well with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Several senior leaders condemned the comments and accused Sardesai of being biased while YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) backed the journalist’s statements, with leaders claiming that Sardesai merely voiced what “many in the public already feel.
