In the age of social media, it’s impossible to predict which word will go viral, when, and how. Sometimes, the very words used to mock and belittle opponents transform over time into massive digital movements. Just like the saying “More Negative.. Became Positive,” two terms that began with ridicule have now gained tremendous craze across the country, including in Andhra Pradesh. They are ‘Cockroach’ and ‘MaViGun’.
A Nationwide Digital Movement
A single inappropriate remark from one person opened the doors to a brand-new digital movement across the country. Netizens took the comments aimed at unemployed youth as a challenge and turned them into a weapon. This gave birth to the ‘Cockroach’ movement. The movement has received unprecedented support at the national level. In just four days, this digital revolution has broken Instagram records, gaining a whopping 21 million (2.1 crore) followers and emerging as a powerful voice of protest nationwide.

These slogans are currently trending.
- “If the system looks at us like insects.. we are proudly cockroaches!”
- “Beware, Crocodile Empire.. the Cockroach Army is coming!”
- “Don’t underestimate our existence.. cockroaches have the power to withstand even nuclear bombs!”
- If you spray Hit, we will come out in crores!
- “If you have ‘Hit Spray’ to silence our voices.. we have just one ‘Meme’ to shake your throne!”
Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia also responded to this, declaring, “When there is a war between crocodiles and cockroaches, I proudly stand with the Cockroach Janata Party.” This statement gave massive political mileage to the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ slogan.
‘MaViGun’ Craze in Andhra Pradesh Politics
While the ‘Cockroach’ wave is sweeping the country, the ‘MaViGun’ slogan is creating a stir among the people of Andhra Pradesh. Though it initially faced some ridicule from opposition parties, it has now become a hot topic across the state. This slogan is not just a name, discussions have begun about the strong economic and geographical strategy behind it.
In the beginning, the ruling Telugu Desam Party planned to crush the ‘MaViGun’ slogan at its inception. It reportedly spent huge amounts of money to activate thousands of social media accounts and deployed hundreds of influencers to spread negative trolling and rumours.
Despite the intense negative propaganda against MaViGun, it has gained equally strong public support at the same speed. What started as a situation where even talking about the state capital was not allowed, has now reached a stage where YSRCP is strongly discussing the ‘MaViGun’ proposal brought by former CM YS Jagan. The slogan has come like a bullet train as a counter to those who said there was no chance to discuss the capital, and has become a topic of discussion across the state. It is also causing unease among leaders of the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

The New debate brought by MaViGun
Instead of pouring around Rs. 1 lakh crore into a place with nothing but 29 villages (Amaravati), the MaViGun (Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur) proposal, which can be developed into an excellent capital with just Rs. 10,000 to 20,000 crore, has brought this discussion to the forefront. Many believe that with this low investment, the lack of a capital in Andhra Pradesh can be addressed, while ensuring balanced development of three regions and bringing nearly 60 lakh people under the capital’s ambit.
The ongoing MaViGun discussions across the state have reportedly pushed the ruling Telugu Desam Party into a defensive position, according to analysts.
Overall, the ‘Cockroach’ and ‘MaViGun’ episodes prove that self-respect slogans are often born exactly where attempts are made to humiliate. These are living examples of how negative comments can be turned into positive mileage in the digital age. It is remarkable that these slogans, which began with derision, have now reached a level where they are making even the rulers think deeply.
