●       Chandrababu has turned the State into a Jungle Raj

For the past two years, the Chandrababu-led coalition government has been enforcing a “Red Book Constitution” and has turned the State into a jungle raj. By bringing the police system under its control, it is implementing political governance and pursuing vendetta against YSRCP leaders who question injustice. Countless false cases have been foisted on YSRCP leaders and workers, who have been subjected to illegal detention. In the latest instance, former Minister Seediri Appalaraju, who belongs to the BC community, has been illegally arrested.

False Cases and arrests against YSRCP Cadres

With the sole objective of silencing voices that question injustice, the Chandrababu coalition government has spent the past 25 months filing illegal cases against YSRCP leaders and workers across the State and sending them to jail.

False cases were filed and arrests carried out against Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Jogi Ramesh, Nandigam Suresh, Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, Pinnelli Venkatarami Reddy, Ambati Rambabu, Kakani Govardhan Reddy, Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Posani Krishna Murali, Gorantla Madhav, Pinipé Srikanth, Nityananda Reddy, Nagarjuna Yadav, former Chief Minister’s CPRO Pudi Srihari and several others.

Chandrababu politicises a road accident

Coalition leaders developed a grudge against Appalaraju because he has been actively working in the Palasa constituency and strongly questioning the government’s injustices. Against this background, Appalaraju’s son Aarav, at an age when he did not fully understand the consequences, was involved in a motorcycle accident. Coalition leaders are now plotting to politicise the incident.

Instead of applying provisions relating to a road accident, police imposed murder charges on Aarav, arrested him and sent him to remand. The subsequent arrest of Appalaraju makes it clear that Chandrababu’s objective is to politically harass the entire family of a YSRCP leader.

What exactly was Seediri Appalaraju’s crime?

Was Appalaraju’s crime questioning the Chandrababu government’s excesses? Was it standing up for the people of Palasa? Was it earning a good reputation and serving the public as a doctor? Is this the new system of law being implemented in the State, Chandrababu gets his political agenda written by the Yellow media, and the police then convert that narrative into a criminal case?

YSRCP leaders are questioning how the death of a shepherd in an unfortunate road accident involving an 18-year-old riding a motorcycle can be treated as murder. They are also asking how a father can be linked to an accidental incident involving his son and whether such action is not a grave injustice.

Will the Same standard apply to TDP leaders?

Questions are being raised across the State about whether the same standard will be applied to road accidents involving TDP leaders, Ministers, their family members or followers. When allegations arise that a family member of a TDP leader caused a road accident while driving a vehicle, will that person and the other members of the family also be arrested in the same manner?

Details of YSRCP leaders illegally arrested so far

●       Illegal Cases against Pinnelli

A case under Section 307 for attempted murder was registered against Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy, and he was unjustly detained in jail. The Karampudi incident occurred on May 14, the day after the elections. Women from SC families there were affected by TDP atrocities. When the MLA obtained permission from the DSP and proceeded to console them, he was stopped before he could even reach Karampudi.

There was no record of CI Narayanaswamy having even witnessed the incident. Though it occurred on May 14, nine days later, on May 23, the CI filed an attempted-murder case against Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy as though something had happened to him. The case was foisted on a person who was not even present at the scene. If the incident occurred on May 14, why was no medico-legal case registered on May 15? The issue was not mentioned even in the SIT report submitted by the Election Commission of India. In this manner, a person was implicated in an attempted-murder case.

Another illegal case was registered over an incident at the Palvai Gate polling station during the May 13 elections. When members of the SC community were prevented from entering the polling booth and casting their votes, the MLA went to the village. He broke the EVM out of anger after witnessing the injustice and the disturbed situation there. The courts also recognised the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is why Pinnelli was granted bail. He was detained in jail for 99 days.

In a separate supremacy battle within the TDP in Palnadu, two TDP members were murdered. Even the Yellow media reported that the killers were TDP members. Vehicles bearing stickers with the name “JBR—Julakanti Brahma Reddy” were also seen at the murder scene. Yet illegal cases were registered against YSRCP leader Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother.

Both an eyewitness present at the time of the murders and the district Superintendent of Police stated that TDP members had committed the killings. When that was the position, how could cases be registered against the Pinnelli brothers?

●       Atrocity against Dalit Former MP Suresh

At midnight on September 4, 2024, police travelled to Hyderabad and illegally arrested Nandigam Suresh, a Dalit leader and former Member of Parliament.

Nearly four years had passed since the TDP office incident. On that day, TDP spokesperson Pattabhi used the abusive expression “bosadike” against the person serving as Chief Minister, a term meaning “son of a whore.” After such abusive remarks were made, people who admired the Chief Minister and were angered by the insult staged a protest outside the TDP office.

TDP workers attacked those conducting the protest. During the assault and resulting stampede, stones also struck the TDP office. After examining CCTV footage and other evidence, the Jagan government issued notices under Section 41A to everyone involved and formally recorded their arrests in accordance with law. Since the offence carried a punishment of less than seven years, the government acted lawfully and with due restraint.

Neither the then MP Nandigam Suresh nor Avuthu Srinivasa Reddy, the husband of the Vijayawada Deputy Mayor, was present during the incident. Nevertheless, three years later, the case was reopened, and people connected with it were threatened or induced into giving false statements, on the basis of which arrests were made.

Nandigam Suresh was harassed and detained in jail for as many as 190 days through this case and several other false cases.

●       Illegal Liquor Case against Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy and Peddireddy Mithun Reddy

The Chandrababu government implicated former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy in the so-called illegal liquor case and subjected him to harassment. He was detained for as many as 226 days.

Although the government could not produce evidence in the non-existent liquor case, it continued using institutions to harass YSRCP leaders.

Chandrababu developed a vendetta against the family of Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, his political rival in his home district. As part of that vendetta, every possible conspiracy was carried out to implicate former MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy in the illegal liquor case.

Mithun Reddy was arrested and detained for 71 days.

●       Illegal Case and arrest of Jogi Ramesh

Ever since Chandrababu returned to power in 2024, the manufacture of spurious liquor has continued across the State under the supervision of TDP leaders. Even the police are aware that one out of every five bottles sold through liquor shops in the State is counterfeit.

In Thamballapalle of Annamayya district, the spurious-liquor operation was carried out under the supervision of Jayachandra Reddy, who contested on the TDP ticket, along with his associates and personal assistants.

On October 3, 2025, TDP leaders were caught at Molakalacheruvu in the Thamballapalle constituency while manufacturing counterfeit liquor and selling it with labels of well-known liquor brands. Police seized spirit, bottles and labels worth approximately ₹1.75 crore.

The counterfeit-liquor racket came to light after differences arose over financial transactions between the manufacturers and the police. TDP leader Katta Surendra Naidu was caught during the police raid. The principal operators, Thamballapalle TDP constituency in-charge Jayachandra Reddy and his relative Giridhar Reddy, escaped. Another key operator, Janardhan Rao, was abroad.

Based on evidence recovered at Molakalacheruvu, police conducted a raid at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada and sealed a bar that was selling counterfeit liquor bottles. Although Jayachandra Reddy and Giridhar Reddy were later found, they were removed from the case.

When Janardhan Rao returned from abroad, senior TDP leaders made him repeat a script prepared by them, created false evidence and illegally implicated BC leader Jogi Ramesh in the case. He was arrested and kept in jail for 83 days. Petrol bombs were thrown at his house, and the entire attack took place in the presence of the police. Dramas continue in the name of an SIT investigation. Recently, Jayachandra Reddy and Giridhar Reddy were brought back from Africa and enabled to secure bail.

●       Ambati Rambabu’s House vandalised; arrested

TDP leaders and workers provoked senior YSRCP leader and former Minister Ambati Rambabu with abusive language and then came to his residence and carried out vandalism. A case was registered against him on the ground that he had abused Chandrababu. He was arrested and detained in jail for 18 days.

●       Vendetta against Vamsi

False cases were filed against Vallabhaneni Vamsi in connection with the attack on the Gannavaram TDP office.

A man named Satyavardhan worked at the Gannavaram TDP office. He personally gave a statement before a judge and said that Vamsi had committed no wrongdoing. Despite this, a false case was registered.

On February 19, 2023, Chandrababu made a person named Pattabhi abuse Vamsi at the TDP headquarters in Mangalagiri. The abuse continued the following day. Pattabhi then arrived in a procession with a group of people at the YSRCP office and attacked Seenayya, a Dalit sarpanch.

When Gannavaram CI Kanaka Rao attempted to stop the attack, they assaulted him as well, causing a head injury. Following the clash, police registered cases against people from both sides.

After TDP leaders who attempted to attack the YSRCP office submitted three complaints, police registered cases suo motu. Vamsi’s name did not appear in any of them because he was not present when the incident occurred.

Two days later, Satyavardhan was called in, made to sign a blank sheet of paper and used to submit another complaint. Based on that complaint, a case under the SC/ST Act was registered. Even in that case, Vamsi’s name did not appear.

On February 23, 2023, police recorded Satyavardhan’s statement under Section 161. Vamsi’s name was not mentioned there either.

The case was reopened on July 10, 2024. After the TDP government came to power, police recorded a second Section 161 statement from the same Satyavardhan. Even in that statement, he clearly said that no one had abused him and that Vallabhaneni Vamsi was not present during the attack on the TDP office.

Despite this, Vamsi was added as Accused No. 71 in the case. To ensure that he would not secure bail under any circumstances, another false case was registered claiming that an attempt had been made to set the Gannavaram TDP office on fire. Vamsi was illegally detained in jail for 137 days.

●       Vendetta against Viswaroop’s Son

Andhra Pradesh Police travelled to Tamil Nadu and arrested Srikanth, the son of former Minister Pinipe Viswaroop, at midnight in connection with an old case. Police said Srikanth was arrested in a murder case that occurred two years earlier at Ainavilli in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.

Srikanth released a video stating that he was a doctor whose duty was to save lives and that he was incapable of taking a life. The case was reopened solely at the instigation of Minister Vasamsetti Subhash.

Minister Subhash was named as Accused No. 1 in the case relating to the burning of Viswaroop’s residence during the Amalapuram riots. As part of political vendetta, he got Srikanth arrested and detained for 37 days.

●       Red Book atrocity against Posani

The “Red Book” campaign was also unleashed against film actor Posani Krishna Murali. He was made to run around prisons, courts and police stations for 24 days and was subjected to severe harassment.

A total of 17 cases were foisted on Posani. Political vendetta was pursued against him for remarks he had made nearly ten years ago about the Nandi Awards and for his comments against Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan and Lokesh. He was illegally detained in jail for 24 days.

●       Illegal Cases against Kakani

The Chandrababu government foisted illegal cases on former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy. Although the Rustum Mica Mines case had been closed long ago, the Mining Deputy Director was made to submit a fresh complaint.

The High Court had already granted bail to Accused No. 1 and two others in the case. Fearing that Kakani, who was named as Accused No. 4, might also secure bail, the government registered cases under non-bailable provisions.

Kakani was arrested through false cases and improperly invoked sections and was detained for 86 days.

●       Illegal arrest and Harassment of Pudi Srihari

The Chandrababu coalition government foisted illegal cases on Pudi Srihari, former CPRO to former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan and YSRCP State General Secretary for Media, arrested him and subjected him to harassment.

Even after the competent court granted him bail, police registered fresh false cases and arrested him again. The High Court ultimately granted bail to Srihari.

On April 15, 2026, Srihari was returning home after meeting Y.S. Jagan at Tadepalli when Kuppam Police arrested him in an inhuman manner. Police had conducted surveillance beforehand and treated him as though he were a terrorist. Officers in plain clothes forcibly pushed him into a vehicle and took him to Kuppam.

Srihari was arrested by holding him responsible for a social-media post concerning Chandrababu, although he had no connection whatsoever with the post. He was taken to Kuppam Police Station and harassed in the name of questioning from midnight until the following evening.

After being detained for 33 hours, he was produced before a court at around 7 p.m., and the magistrate granted him bail. The High Court suspended the Kuppam court order and, at the same time, directed that he should not be arrested. The Supreme Court also declined to intervene because the case was pending before the High Court.

Despite this, Kuppam Police arrested Srihari once again in Bengaluru on April 29. Police again troubled him in the name of questioning. Justice nevertheless prevailed, and the Kuppam court judge granted him bail for the second time on April 30.

Immediately after bail was granted at Kuppam, police foisted two more false cases against him at Guntur Kothapeta and Nallapadu. A large police force was deployed outside the Kuppam court. Guntur Kothapeta Police then arrested Srihari and took him to the police station.

The Guntur court granted him bail. In the Nallapadu case, the High Court directed that he be released on bail. Srihari thereby secured bail in all the cases.

Although the government and police subjected Srihari to harassment in every possible manner, justice ultimately prevailed.
