Why MAVIGUN is trending.. Truth rising beyond Political Propaganda

YS Jagan’s Plan-B has triggered a widespread debate across the state. Intellectuals and common people alike are responding positively to the MAVIGUN proposal. It is increasingly being pointed out that the Amaravati being projected by Chandrababu Naidu has no real connection with the historical Amaravati. While using the Amaravati brand image for the capital, Chandrababu is now deploying his propaganda machinery to malign MAVIGUN. Notably, no such attacks have ever been seen on other corridors in the country with unusual names. The opposition to MAVIGUN is driven purely by hostility toward YS Jagan’s proposal, with even so-called “friendly critics” falling under the influence of Chandrababu and yellow media.

Chandrababu is attempting to equate his proposed Amaravati with the historical Amaravati, despite there being no real connection between the two. He is trying to project a non-existent brand image as if it were authentic. At a time when even intellectuals are recognizing MAVIGUN as a more suitable capital alternative for Andhra Pradesh, deliberate efforts are being made through social media and aligned media outlets to discredit it. Certain digital platforms, which claim to have revolutionized media, are also acting as “friendly enemies” under the influence of Chandrababu and yellow media, failing to understand the MAVIGUN concept after falling into the opposition’s trap.

Widespread debate on MAVIGUN

As part of the state capital planning, YS Jagan’s Plan-B proposal has sparked extensive discussion. The term MAVIGUN (Machilipatnam–Vijayawada–Guntur), being unfamiliar in Telugu, naturally creates difficulty in pronunciation and understanding when compared to Amaravati. However, Amaravati as a place has existed for centuries in Guntur district along the Krishna River and later flourished as a Buddhist center.

Is Historical Amaravati the same as Chandrababu’s Amaravati?

Chandrababu has appropriated the historical identity of Amaravati. In reality, the Amaravati he proposes has no connection with the ancient Amaravati. The historical Amaravati lies about 28 kilometers away from the proposed capital region. The Buddha statue there was constructed as part of Kalachakra events under the guidance of the Dalai Lama and other Buddhist spiritual leaders.

Misuse of Amaravati branding

Chandrababu and his aligned media have cleverly used this Buddhist heritage as branding for their proposed Amaravati. This fact is largely unknown outside Guntur district, especially among the current generation and people in other regions. The propaganda machinery has hidden many such realities and appropriated historical names and structures. Even neutral observers have failed to explain these facts effectively.

TDP’s reaction to YS Jagan’s Proposal

When YS Jagan proposed MAVIGUN (MA-VI-GUN) under Plan-B, Chandrababu attempted to suppress the advantages and strategic importance of the region. It is evident that TDP was shaken by this proposal, as it is grounded in practical reality and benefits three districts naturally.

Within hours of YS Jagan’s press meet, Chandrababu activated his propaganda machinery. Analysts believe that through paid accounts and fake profiles, a deliberate campaign was launched to portray the term MAVIGUN negatively. Even Chandrababu himself hesitated to acknowledge the term during his press interaction, indicating a coordinated effort by TDP and its media ecosystem.

Naming Conventions of Growth Corridors

In reality, growth corridors and urban development authorities across India often have abbreviations that are not linguistically rooted or widely understood. In Andhra Pradesh itself, there are names like MUDA (Machilipatnam Urban Development Authority), TUDA (Tirupati Urban Development Authority), VUDA (Vijayawada Urban Development Authority), and GUDA (Godavari Urban Development Authority).

Interestingly, some of these abbreviations resemble inappropriate words in Telugu, yet they have never been subjected to trolling. This clearly shows that the issue is not with the terminology itself. However, ignoring this basic logic, even those who claim to support YSRCP have fallen into the trap set by Chandrababu and TDP’s social media campaigns.

Examples of similar Corridors

Across India:

  • AKIC (Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor)
  • CBIC (Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor)
  • DMIC (Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor)

Globally:

  • SanSan (San Francisco–San Diego corridor, USA)
  • BosWash (Boston–Washington corridor, USA)

Role of “Friendly Enemies”

Some individuals have deliberately used trolling narratives to target those working for the party. Even self-proclaimed journalists have fallen into this trap, raising serious questions about their understanding and analytical capacity. Certain digital platforms that claim to operate on YSRCP-related content have also indirectly aided TDP by attempting to damage the party.

MAVIGUN Concept gaining traction

The reality is that irrespective of whether people support or oppose the term MAVIGUN, YS Jagan has achieved his objective. Due to widespread trolling by TDP and distortions by “friendly enemies,” the term has entered public discourse. Whether positively or negatively, it has reached the people. Following the press meet, several aspects highlighting the advantages of the MAVIGUN growth corridor (Machilipatnam–Vijayawada–Guntur) have come to the forefront, attracting even neutral audiences.

Positive Response from Three Districts

YS Jagan’s Plan-B proposal is receiving positive responses across all three districts. It also raises a key point, would a leader who has served five years as Chief Minister take such a strategic step without a clear plan? This exposes the intellectual limitations of those who question it.

Ultimately, this situation resembles the Paracetamol debate during COVID. When YS Jagan suggested it, he was mocked. Later, when WHO endorsed it, everyone followed it. Similarly, YSRCP circles believe MAVIGUN will eventually be accepted in the same way.
