A massive public outcry erupted across Andhra Pradesh against the privatization of government medical colleges. Thousands of students, intellectuals, and YSRCP cadre took to the streets in all major towns and constituencies, raising slogans condemning the government’s anti-people move. These medical colleges, established by former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy with the vision of providing world-class healthcare to the poor and expanding access to medical education for underprivileged students, are now being handed over to private entities by the Chandrababu-led coalition government under the guise of the PPP model. Since October 10, YSRCP has been leading statewide movements, including Rachabanda campaigns and a one-crore signatures drive, mobilizing public support and awareness.
Today, huge rallies were organized across all 175 constituencies, with delegations submitting representations to MRO and RDO offices. Even though police restrictions, intimidation, and house arrests were used to obstruct YSRCP leaders, the people’s movement intensified instead of slowing down. Students, citizens, and party workers marched in large numbers, asserting that public medical colleges built with taxpayers’ money must remain public. The collective voice echoed across the state — privatization of medical colleges will not be tolerated.
