In a heart-stirring incident from Siati village in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, a dog’salertness saved 67 villagers from a deadly flash flood triggered by a cloudburst on the night ofJune 30. At midnight, while everyone was asleep, the dog began barking loudly, waking itsowner Narendra. Sensing cracks in the walls and water seeping in, he rushed to alert hisneighbors. Just minutes after they evacuated, massive landslides destroyed most homes in thevillage. Only four to five houses remain. The rescued families have taken refuge at a nearbytemple in Triyambal village.
This miraculous escape comes amid relentless monsoon rains that have battered HimachalPradesh since June 20. The state has witnessed widespread destruction, with 80 confirmeddeaths—52 directly due to rain-related disasters like landslides and flash floods. Over 320 houseshave been fully damaged, and crucial infrastructure including 14 bridges and multiple roads hascollapsed. The estimated financial loss ranges between ₹572–700 crore.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with NDRF, SDRF, and Army personnel deployed acrossaffected regions. Authorities have also issued fresh alerts as heavy rains are expected to continue.Despite the devastation, the Siati dog’s timely warning stands out as a rare moment of hope in agrim season
