- How the TDP-led coalition is endangering YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s life through systematic security lapses
In the world’s largest democracy, security for political leaders is not just protocol, it’s a statement of the state’s commitment to safeguard public representatives regardless of their political affiliations. But what happens when that very commitment is stripped away? When institutional safeguards are dismantled deliberately, and the life of a former Chief Minister, one of the most popular political figures in the country, is put at risk? That is exactly the chilling reality surrounding YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, leader of the YSR Congress Party and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
1. A Pattern of Intentional Neglect
Since the formation of the TDP-led coalition government, multiple grave security lapses have occurred, repeatedly putting Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in harm’s way. These aren’t isolated incidents, they form a consistent and disturbing pattern. His Z+ security cover has been diluted without a mandated Intelligence Bureau (IB) review, essential personnel removed, and even basic arrangements like barricading at public events have been ignored.
Despite his status as a Z+ category protectee and a victim of two previous assassination attempts, the state government has acted with lethal casualness. Even the CRPF convoy and dedicated bulletproof vehicles have been neglected, replaced with defective alternatives or nothing at all.
2. Major incidents that expose security failures
● April 13, 2024 – Stone Attack in Vijayawada
During a roadshow, a stone was hurled at Y.S. Jagan, hitting him directly. The attack was blamed on intelligence failure and lack of police deployment. The situation exposed the cracks in security arrangements.
● July 19, 2024 – Faulty Bulletproof Vehicle
YS Jagan was provided with a stalled, outdated bulletproof vehicle when he visited the family of a slain YSRCP worker. The car had jammed doors, no air conditioning, and broke down multiple times. The Andhra Pradesh High Court later acknowledged these failures and directed a replacement.
● February 19, 2025 – Guntur Mirchi Yard Lapse
Amidst a massive crowd of farmers, no state police protection was given. YSRCP leaders had to form a human shield. This failure occurred despite prior notification to the administration.
● April 8, 2025 – Ramagiri Helipad Breach
During a visit to Sri Sathya Sai district, hundreds of people flooded the helipad, breaking through the non-existent security barricades. The helicopter’s windshield was damaged, making it unsafe to fly. YS Jagan had to return by road under risk.
3. Guntur & Rapthadu: No Security, No Barricades
In Guntur, there were no police, no rope line, leaving YS Jagan vulnerable. Just days earlier, at Kuruba Lingamayya’s house in Rapthadu, helipad security completely collapsed, again exposing him to crowd surge dangers.
Even in the 2014–2019 opposition period,YS Jagan’s security was never this bad. The intent behind the neglect now appears deliberate.
4. Government’s Misinformation Campaign
Adding insult to injury, TDP leaders and affiliated media began a campaign branding YS Jagan’s Z+ security as excessive. Claims that 986 personnel at a cost of Rs. 296 crores are deployed have been debunked. Official data confirms:
- Only 379 personnel are on duty.
- 555 are rotational staff.
- 33 CRPF personnel are full-time.
Even more damning, YS Jagan has not had a functioning bulletproof convoy vehicle since 2023.
5. Letters of Appeal Ignored
Despite repeated letters to PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking CRPF-controlled security and investigation into the state’s negligence, no concrete action has been taken. The July 18, 2024 and March 6, 2025 letters clearly allege “conscious decisions to provoke attacks.”
6. Political Mockery: The ‘Lavu Letter’ Outrage
TDP MP Lavu Krishnadevarayalu’s letter calling YS Jagan a “professional criminal” and mocking his security concerns has shocked political observers. The letter’s tone trivializes assassination attempts and questions why YS Jagan needs protection. Ironically, the same leaders receive full security cover despite facing criminal cases themselves.
Would such language be tolerated if it were directed at Chandrababu Naidu? Would the state allow crowds near his helicopter with no barricades? The double standards are blatant.
7. Political Vendetta in Plain Sight
The withdrawal of security seems to be part of a larger political conspiracy: to restrict Y.S. Jagan’s public outreach and create risks under the guise of crowd enthusiasm. The fact that barricades are missing, route permissions are delayed, and media narrative is manipulated paints a dark picture of vendetta politics.
Conclusion: Security is a Constitutional Obligation, Not a Political Favor
Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Z+ protection stems from real and documented threats. The coalition government’s deliberate negligence, the weaponization of state machinery, and the mockery from TDP leadership are not just disrespectful—they are dangerous.
The Union Government must intervene urgently:
- Restore full Z+ protection.
- Deploy CRPF personnel under Union control.
- Investigate the lapses and hold the state accountable.
This is not about politics. It is about preserving the sanctity of democratic institutions, and the life of a public servant who continues to face real threats.
