Political unrest and riots in Nepal have left 81 tourists from North Andhra Pradesh stranded inKathmandu.
According to reports, the group—comprising 70 from Visakhapatnam and 11 from Srikakulamand Vizianagaram districts—had left on September 3 for a pleasure trip to Nepal. They arecurrently staying at the Royal Kusum Hotel in Kathmandu, where they have been confined forthe past two days due to a government-imposed curfew.
The tourists, distressed and fearful, have appealed to the authorities for immediate help to returnto India. The government has initiated efforts to ensure their safe evacuation, and further updatesare awaited.The violent unrest in Nepal was triggered after the government abruptly banned 26 popularsocial media platforms, sparking outrage among young people who saw it as censorship on top oflong-standing frustrations with corruption, inequality, and unemployment. What began asyouth-led protests escalated into riots, with government buildings set on fire, clashes withsecurity forces, and at least 19 deaths reported. Amid mounting pressure, Prime Minister KPSharma Oli resigned, but the situation in Kathmandu and other cities remains tense underindefinite curfew and heavy army presence.
