Mystery spinner Kuldeep Yadav has staged a comeback to the Indian squad ahead of the Asia Cup after a strong showing in IPL 2025, where he bagged 15 wickets in 13 matches. His last T20I outing came in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, and his return adds depth to India’s spin department on the spin-friendly tracks of the UAE.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has hailed Kuldeep as India’s “trump card”, urging the team management to adopt a spin-heavy strategy. He backed a three-pronged attack comprising Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, and Axar Patel, which could be decisive in UAE conditions.

The trio brings a mix of mystery and balance — Varun Chakravarthy, with 21 wickets in IPL 2024, remains one of the most consistent wicket-takers; Axar Patel continues to offer vital all-round stability; and Kuldeep’s return in form provides the X-factor.

The much-awaited Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28, with matches spread across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The tournament will feature eight teams, divided into two groups:

Group A: India, Pakistan, UAE, Oman

Group B: Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Hong Kong

India will open their campaign against UAE on September 10 in Dubai, followed by a high-voltage clash with arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14.
