This move comes amid increasing concerns that unregulated coverage of sensitive military information could jeopardize national security and inadvertently aid hostile forces.
According to the advisory, media outlets must strictly refrain from broadcasting or publishing any content related to the strategies, movements, or operational plans of the Indian Army and security forces. The directive emphasizes that only official updates and statements released by the armed forces or authorized government channels should be used for reporting.
The government highlighted past instances—such as the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the Kandahar Indian Airlines hijacking—where unrestricted media coverage unintentionally benefited the enemy by revealing real-time movements and tactical responses. These examples have prompted a more cautious and structured approach to media engagement during high-tension scenarios.
