In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, security forces across the country have ramped up surveillance and intensified scrutiny of sensitive areas. As part of these measures, Vijayawada police have stepped up monitoring efforts after receiving intelligence alerts from central investigation agencies.
According to sources, central agencies informed Vijayawada police about the possible presence of individuals linked to the banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the city couple of months ago. Acting swiftly on this input, local police have begun closely monitoring the movements of several strangers across different areas of Vijayawada.
So far, ten individuals have come under the scanner. Though they are reportedly working in various sectors and have no known history of involvement in terrorist activities, their background, associations, and activities are being thoroughly examined. Police officials confirmed that while no immediate threat has been detected, these individuals remain under watch as a preventive measure and will be called in for questioning if necessary.
