Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy launched a scathing attack on the TDP-led coalition government, accusing it of abandoning the farmers and turning the agrarian crisis into a man-made calamity. He said that since this government assumed power, farmers have been left without support or security, and all essential systems built for their welfare have been dismantled.
He made these remarks during a video conference with regional coordinators and district YSRCP presidents held from the party central office, reviewing the ground situation following Cyclone Montha across affected districts.
“Farmers Had Security Under YSRCP — Now They Have None”
Recalling the support extended by the previous YSRCP government, YS Jagan highlighted that free crop insurance was implemented thoroughly:
- 85 lakh farmers covered
- 70 lakh acres insured
- Government paid the full premium
- Rs. 7,802 crore disbursed to 54.55 lakh farmers as compensation in five years
He contrasted this with the current government’s record, stating:
- Only 19 lakh farmers and 19 lakh acres are insured now
- Only farmers with bank loans are covered because banks collected the premium
- For two consecutive years, the government did not pay a single season’s insurance premium
“What about the remaining farmers?” he asked.
“Where is crop security now? This is clearly a man-made calamity created by Chandrababu Naidu.”
“16 Months, Only Suffering — Not a Rupee of Relief”
YS Jagan stated that in the 16 months of the coalition rule:
- No input subsidy
- Rs. 600 crore due to 5.5 lakh farmers not released
- E-Crop scrapped
- Rythu Bharosa Kendras dismantled
- No Minimum Support Price protection
- Farmers denied procurement and remunerative rates
He recalled unfulfilled promises:
| Crop | Govt Promise | Reality |
| Chilli | Rs. 11,781/quintal | Not purchased |
| Tobacco | Purchase assured | Not done |
| Mango | Rs. 12/kg | Not given |
| Onion | Rs. 1,200/quintal | Withdrawn |
| Compensation | Rs. 50,000/ha | Not given |
He also said the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme cheated farmers:
- Rs. 40,000 promised
- Only Rs. 5,000 given
“Every season farmers suffered, and not once did this government support them. When the government functions responsibly, lives are not lost. During Cyclone Montha, their publicity was at its peak, but field-level relief was completely weak.”
YS Jagan Directs Cadre: Stand With Farmers, Stop Govt Manipulations
YS Jagan appreciated party leaders who stood by people during the cyclone and instructed them to:
- Stay with farmers during crop-damage enumeration
- Ensure no farmer is left out
- Question officials if any manipulation or exclusion occurs
- Ensure every affected farmer receives compensation
“No farmer should face injustice. If the government tries to err deliberately, question firmly and correct it.”
Campaign Against Medical College Privatization to Intensify
Referring to the government’s move to privatize newly-established government medical colleges, YS Jagan reiterated that the One-Crore Signature Campaign will continue with full public participation.
- Rallies in all Assembly constituencies on November 11
- Program postponed earlier due to Cyclone Montha
He said government medical colleges:
- Bring medical education within reach of poor students
- Establish multi-specialty hospitals in districts
- Strengthen public healthcare access
“Protecting them is our responsibility,” he stated.
