A recent case of bird flu (H5N1) in Andhra Pradesh has raised alarms after a two-year-old child from Narasaraopet in Palnadu district succumbed to the virus. This marks the first reported human death due to bird flu in the state, prompting health officials to take urgent preventive measures.
The toddler was admitted to AIIMS Mangalagiri on March 4 after suffering from fever and respiratory distress since February 28. Despite medical treatment, the child passed away on March 16. Subsequent tests confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus, a rare but dangerous strain of bird flu that can infect humans.
Health experts suspect that the infection may have been caused by consuming raw or undercooked chicken. In light of this, medical authorities are advising the public to avoid raw poultry and ensure that all meat is thoroughly cooked before consumption.
