Chandrababu Naidu once again staged a flop show in the Assembly, spinning lies and claiming credit for Polavaram. Irrigation experts say his theatrics are nothing but a thief crying thief. For 15 years as CM, Babu never moved a stone for Polavaram. It was Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who gave the project life, securing clearances, funding, land acquisition, and completing right and left canals. Under YSR, Polavaram truly took off.
But Naidu, obsessed with commissions, treated Polavaram as an ATM. Instead of systematic construction, he left cofferdams incomplete, began diaphragm wall works wrongly, and handed contracts to cronies like Navayuga and PSK through nomination. His blunders led to diaphragm wall collapse and massive delays. Even international experts later confirmed that faulty sequencing and poor quality under Naidu caused irreparable damage.
From 2014–19, Babu’s legacy was: five sham foundation stones, iron-sheet gate dramas, false promises of 2017 and 2019 completion, and Rs. 3,000 crore irregular contracts. PM Modi himself exposed Polavaram as Babu’s ATM. Yellow media like Eenadu drummed up his empty claims while works stagnated.
In contrast, YSRCP inherited disaster in 2019 and still pushed ahead. Despite scour holes, diaphragm wall damage, and COVID, Jagan’s government:
- Completed spillway and 48 gates
- Closed cofferdam gaps
- Finished Gap-3 concreting
- Diverted Godavari through spillway (historic 2021 milestone)
- Advanced canal networks, aqueducts, and 960 MW hydel works
- Saved Rs. 784 Cr via reverse tendering
Experts note that if not for Naidu’s blunders, Polavaram would have been completed by 2022 under Jagan.
Meanwhile, Naidu kept silent when Centre cut project height to 41.15m and capped funds at Rs. 12,157 Cr, despite having 16 MPs and being in NDA. His voice rises only in Andhra, not in Delhi.
👉 The truth is clear: Polavaram belongs to YSR’s vision and Jagan’s determination, not Chandrababu’s publicity stunts. Farmers and people know under whose tenure Polavaram truly progressed.
