Massive Public Participation
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) declared the ‘Betrayal Day’ protest a resounding success, reflecting the widespread anger of people who feel cheated by the coalition government’s failure to fulfill election promises. Speaking at the YSRCP Central Office in Tadepalli, Party State Coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said that despite police restrictions and attempts to suppress peaceful rallies, people from all sections of society participated voluntarily, voicing their dissent against the deceptive policies of the coalition led by Chandrababu Naidu.
Contrast in Leadership
“YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, even in opposition, has remained with the people, while Chandrababu Naidu was absent from the state between 2019-24,” Reddy stated, drawing a stark contrast with the 99% promise fulfillment rate during Jagan’s tenure. The coalition, he said, has halted existing welfare schemes and failed to roll out promised ones, leaving beneficiaries in distress. “The elderly and differently-abled are now forced to stand in queues at ration shops after the doorstep delivery system introduced by YS Jagan was scrapped,” he added.
Financial Mismanagement
Reddy criticized the coalition for borrowing a staggering ₹1.51 lakh crore without transparency, unlike the accountable Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system under Jagan’s government. He highlighted the harassment of YSRCP leaders through house arrests and police interference, yet the public’s resolve remained unshaken.
Growing Anti-Incumbency
“The ‘Betrayal Day’ protests are a mild reminder of the growing anti-incumbency against the coalition. The groundswell of support for YSRCP will spell doom for the TDP-led government,” Reddy warned. Neglect in critical sectors like health, education, and agriculture, coupled with unfulfilled written assurances, has fueled public discontent.
YSRCP’s Commitment
Reddy reaffirmed YSRCP’s commitment as a responsible opposition, standing firmly with the people. “Unlike TDP, which vanished after its 2019 defeat, YSRCP has remained engaged, addressing public concerns even after the 2024 election setback,” he said.
Call for Accountability
Challenging the coalition to deliver on its promises to farmers, students, women, and pensioners, Reddy remarked, “If the coalition believes the people are happy, let them visit ration shops, hospitals, and poor neighborhoods to celebrate their ‘achievements’.” The protests, he emphasized, are a clear message that the people will not forget the betrayal by the coalition government.
A Warning to the Coalition
“Chandrababu may claim to build a paradise in the name of Amaravati, but he cannot fool the people of Andhra Pradesh,” Reddy concluded, underscoring YSRCP’s resolve to hold the government accountable and fight for the rights of the people.
