YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the demolition of houses in Vijayawada’s Jojinagar, alleging large-scale abuse of power and political interference. After visiting Bhavanipuram Jojinagar and meeting the affected families, YS Jagan said the roles of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, MP Kesineni Chinni, and others responsible must be brought to light.
Demolitions despite SC relief
YS Jagan expressed shock that the houses were razed even as the matter is sub judice before the Supreme Court, which had granted interim relief to 42 families until December 31. He questioned how over 200 police personnel could be deployed to support private individuals and demolish homes while families were still inside, calling it a grave violation of law and justice.
Height of misuse of power
Describing the incident as the peak of authoritarian excess, YS Jagan accused the government of siding with private interests instead of protecting the poor. He criticised the state for filing affidavits and petitions against the victims, saying a government meant to safeguard citizens had turned against them.
Land grab conspiracy
Highlighting the land’s value, 2 acres and 17 cents worth over Rs. 150 crore, YS Jagan alleged a conspiracy involving a fake society floated in 2016 with a backdated 1981 record to grab the land. He alleged the involvement of top political figures, including the Chief Minister and his family members, and demanded a thorough investigation to expose the truth.
No notices before demolition
YS Jagan pointed out that the affected families had been living in the area for nearly 25 years, with registered documents, municipal approvals, electricity, water, drainage connections, and bank loans. He questioned how demolitions could be carried out without issuing a single notice, despite all statutory clearances being in place.
Govt must take responsibility
Demanding immediate relief, YS Jagan said the state government must repay the victims’ bank loans and construct alternative houses for all affected families. He warned that if the government fails to act, the YSRCP, upon returning to power, would order a CBI probe and ensure those responsible are brought before the courts.
‘Jagananna stands with you’
Reassuring the victims, YS Jagan pledged full legal support from the YSR Congress Party in both the Supreme Court and the High Court. “We will stand by every affected family until justice is delivered,” he said, asserting that the fight would continue until accountability is fixed and the victims are rehabilitated.
