Are the police in the state straying from their path? Has the government’s focus on “Red Book” conspiracies led to neglecting law and order, with this attitude trickling down to lower ranks? Is the police system, from top to bottom, displaying gross negligence instead of resolving public issues and aiding those in distress? Are some constables engaging in illicit activities and atrocities? Are they colluding with sand, liquor, soil, ration, and betting mafias, helping criminals escape? Are they showing no mercy to those who approach police stations for help? Are some police personnel behaving inappropriately towards women victims in certain areas? Are they unjustly filing cases against victims? The answer to all these questions seems to be a resounding “yes.”
Is discipline faltering in the “Red Book” regime?
Since the change in government, criticisms have been mounting that the “Red Book” regime has been implemented with vindictive actions and political harassment for the past year. Despite widespread criticism, the government shows no signs of relenting and continues its anarchic rule. Consequently, law and order in the state have completely deteriorated. Illegal cases, harassment, attacks, and unlawful arrests against opposition leaders, activists, ordinary citizens, and social media activists continue unabated. The government is accused of encouraging these actions, ruling with a tyrannical grip. Criticisms are rife that the police are also straying from their path under the “Red Book” implementation. Allegations are mounting that they are ignoring public grievances and woes while aligning with ruling party leaders. The public is lamenting that instead of upholding Ambedkar’s Constitution, protecting citizens, and addressing their grievances responsibly, the police are acting with bias and favoritism.
Constables aiding criminals?
Sand mafia, liquor mafia, soil mafia, ration smuggling mafia, gravel rackets, and gambling clubs are thriving unchecked in the state. Instead of curbing these, allegations are strong that some field-level police constables are aiding the accused. Adding weight to these claims, several constables have been suspended in various areas. Despite evidence and information about illegal activities, constables are reportedly helping culprits escape due to bias. Numerous incidents have come to light through newspapers, TV, and social media in the form of videos. Only after videos and photos go viral on social media do senior police officials take action, suspending the involved constables.
Ignoring victims’ plights?
When victims approach police stations seeking justice, incidents of gross negligence by Circle Inspectors (CIs), head constables, and constables are coming to light. Instead of delivering justice, some officers react with irritation and file counter-cases against victims. There are numerous instances of constables intimidating victims, demanding compliance, and continuing harassment even after complaints are lodged with senior officials.
Indecent behavior towards women
Some police personnel are taking advantage of women who approach police stations seeking justice for various issues. They are reportedly collecting their mobile numbers, harassing them, and engaging in misconduct. Women victims have released videos on social media, stating that the harassment by police is worse than their original grievances, with many such incidents coming to light.
