Telangana Minister Konda Surekha has found herself at the center of a political storm after making sensational comments during a government event held in Warangal. Her remarks, which touched upon corruption within the government system, have sparked intense reactions across political parties and the public alike.
During the event, Konda Surekha alleged that some ministers have been accepting bribes for clearing official files, describing such practices as “common” within the administrative system. She went on to share a personal anecdote, claiming that a company once approached her offering money for file clearance. “I told them, I don’t need a single rupee. Instead, use that money for social service,” she stated, asserting her personal integrity and distancing herself from such corrupt practices.
However, her comments did not sit well with many, including her own party colleagues in the Congress. Several leaders and party workers criticized the appropriateness of her statement, especially given her position as a serving minister. Many within the political sphere questioned the message it sends about the current government’s image and internal discipline.
The opposition party BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) also seized the opportunity to launch a counterattack, using the remarks to challenge the credibility of the Congress government. They accused Surekha of indirectly admitting to systemic corruption and demanded accountability.
In response to the mounting criticism, Konda Surekha issued a clarification. She explained that her comments were directed at ministers from the previous BRS-led government, and not the current administration. “Some people are twisting my words to defame the present government,” she said in a social media post, attempting to contain the political fallout.
