As Bihar gears up for the crucial 2025 Assembly elections, a recent statewide survey has thrown up significant political signals. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has emerged as the most preferred candidate for the Chief Minister’s post, securing 32.1% support among respondents—putting him ahead of current CM Nitish Kumar, who trails at just 25%.

Tejashwi’s popularity is particularly strong among Muslim voters, with nearly 50% backing him for the top job. His rising appeal signals a potential shift in the political landscape of Bihar, especially as the Mahagathbandhan and NDA coalitions remain in a tight contest. The survey shows Mahagathbandhan marginally ahead with 36.1% public support, closely followed by the NDA at 35.4%.

Amid Nitish Kumar’s declining popularity, there is growing speculation that the BJP may field a new Chief Ministerial face in a bid to revive its prospects. With shifting loyalties and a narrowing vote gap between alliances, Bihar’s political battle is set to intensify in the coming months.

Tejashwi Yadav, son of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, entered politics in 2015 and won his first election from Raghopur. He became Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister at just 26 as part of the Grand Alliance government. After the alliance broke in 2017, he served as the Leader of the Opposition and continues to be a prominent face in Bihar politics. He retained that position following the 2020 elections, with RJD emerging as the single largest party.
