In a significant political development, senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Sugavasi Subramanyam has officially resigned from the party, dealing a major blow to the ruling party in the Rajampet constituency. Subramanyam, who contested as the TDP candidate in the 2024 Assembly elections from Rajampet, submitted his resignation to party national president N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Citing the need to honor the opinions of the people and his cadre, Subramanyam clarified that the decision was not sudden but the result of months of deliberation and public feedback. “I am stepping down from a party that no longer reflects the voice of my supporters. This decision was made after careful thought over the past five to six months,” he said.
Subramanyam affirmed his continued commitment to public service, stating he would remain active in politics and work to support the people through democratic means.
He also mentioned having discussed the matter with his father, late Sugavasi Palakondrayudu, a well-respected political figure in Rayalaseema and a former MLA and MP. Subramanyam implied that he believes his father would have supported this decision.
“I have no further association with the Telugu Desam Party,” he declared, adding that he will soon hold a press conference to reveal further details.
Subramanyam’s exit has created ripples in the TDP, especially in Rajampet where he held substantial influence due to his family’s legacy. Political observers see this as a serious jolt to the party’s local leadership just a year into its return to power. The development also raises questions about internal conflicts and diminishing space for senior leaders within the party structure.
His next political move remains uncertain, but speculation is rife about possible alignments or an independent course. All eyes are now on his upcoming public statement.
