In what’s turning into a major political flashpoint, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in Vizag are openly expressing anger and disappointment over the GVMC Deputy Mayor post being handed to their ally, the Jana Sena Party.
While the two parties have been trying to project unity, the decision to give the Deputy Mayor position to Jana Sena has sparked unrest, particularly among TDP corporators from the Kapu and Yadava communities. Many felt betrayed, believing the post should have stayed with the TDP—especially since the Mayor position is already held by TDP’s Pilla Srinivasa Rao.
The frustration boiled over during a coordination meeting meant to finalize the election strategy. Several TDP corporators walked out, refusing to take part in the Deputy Mayor election. Their absence led to a shortage of quorum—only 54 corporators were present, while 56 were needed—forcing the election to be postponed.
Jana Sena, meanwhile, stood firm on its claim, nominating 64th ward corporator Dalli Govinda Reddy. With its strength in GVMC rising from 4 to 17 members, the party argued it had earned the right to the post.
What hurt TDP loyalists more was the fact that a popular and capable TDP corporator from Gajuwaka was overlooked. “It’s not just about power sharing,” said one senior corporator, “It’s about respecting ground-level leaders and local sentiment.”
Social media platforms lit up with comments and memes mocking the coalition’s internal tussles. Locals called it a “backroom deal,” questioning the transparency and coordination within the alliance.
