After Posani, it’s now actress and activist Sri Reddy who finds herself entangled in a series of social media-related legal troubles. The spotlight is back on controversial political commentary, as coalition parties TDP and Janasena, currently in power in Andhra Pradesh, appear to be cracking down on critics from the previous YSRCP-led government era.
Sri Reddy, known for her outspoken views and bold language, had frequently targeted key leaders like Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh between 2019 and 2024. Her sharp and often abusive criticisms were widely circulated online during that period, drawing both support and backlash.
With the political tides having turned, several TDP-Janasena leaders have now filed complaints against her for those past remarks. As a result, the police have registered a total of six cases against her. She was recently summoned for questioning in Vizianagaram district and served a 41A CrPC notice, which she complied with by attending the enquiry.
It is also known that Sri Reddy has previously issued an apology for her statements and has applied for bail in connection with the registered cases.
This development adds to the growing concern that a political witch hunt may be underway, targeting voices that were critical of the current ruling alliance during their time in opposition. While legal experts debate the implications, Sri Reddy’s case is already fueling conversations about freedom of expression, accountability, and political vendettas in the digital age.
As the legal proceedings continue, all eyes remain on how the judiciary responds to these politically charged cases, and whether more such actions are on the horizon.
