Kaleshwaram Twist: KCR, Harish, Etela Get Notices

In a major development, the Kaleshwaram Commission investigating irregularities in the ambitious Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project has issued notices to three prominent political leaders: former Chief Minister and BRS President K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), former Minister T. Harish Rao, and BJP leader Etela Rajender.

The commission, probing allegations of corruption, technical lapses, and massive cost overruns in the project, has asked the leaders to submit written explanations within 15 days. The notices seek clarity on critical decisions made during the construction phase, the rationale behind the spiraling costs, and whether due administrative and engineering protocols were followed.

Originally projected at Rs. 38,000 crore, the project’s costs reportedly shot up to over Rs. 1.20 lakh crore. Recent structural failures, including damage to key barrages like Medigadda and Annaram, further intensified scrutiny. The National Dam Safety Authority and CAG have already flagged serious concerns, prompting calls for accountability.

Sources indicate the investigation is also exploring whether public funds were misused and institutional procedures bypassed.
