Three-Term Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath Passes Away

In a moment that has left Telangana’s political and cultural circles in deep mourning, JubileeHills MLA Maganti Gopinath breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday. He was 62.

He had been battling health complications in recent months and was admitted to AIG Hospital in Gachibowli on June 5th following a severe heart attack. Despite the best efforts of doctors and days on ventilator support, he passed away at 5:45 AM, surrounded by close family and loved ones.

A Life Rooted in Public Service

Born on June 2, 1963, in Hyderabad’s Hyderguda, Gopinath’s journey from a spirited youth to athree-time MLA was driven by his deep commitment to people and his innate leadership. Theson of Maganti Krishnamurthy and Mahananda Kumari, he graduated from Osmania Universityand found his calling early in public life.

His political career began in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), where he quickly rose through theranks to become the Telugu Yuvatha (youth wing) President in 1985. Gopinath wasn’t just apolitician—he was a people’s person. Whether it was his time as a HUDA Director, a ConsumerForum member, or later as a legislator, he remained grounded and accessible.

In 2014, he was elected as the MLA from Jubilee Hills on a TDP ticket. Eventually, he joined theBharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and went on to win the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections,defeating high-profile candidates, including former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin.

More Than a Politician

Maganti Gopinath had a flair beyond politics—cinema. A passionate film lover, he produced anumber of Telugu films like Paata Basti, Ravana, Bhadrachalam Ramudu, and Na Style E Veru.His deep connections in Tollywood and admiration for legends like NTR and Krishna reflectedhis love for storytelling and culture.

Despite his success, he remained humble—never letting politics or the silver screen change hispersonal warmth.

The news of his passing has evoked heartfelt reactions from across the political spectrum.Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, K.T.
