In a stunning revelation, the CID’s preliminary investigation into the tragic stampede atChinnaswamy Stadium has exposed a series of missteps and ignored warnings that led to thechaos during RCB’s IPL victory celebration on June 4, 2025.
According to the report, the urgency to accommodate Virat Kohli’s travel to the UK was themain trigger. CID officials found that RCB’s CEO Rajesh Menon and Marketing Head NikhilSosale pressured KSCA to host the event on June 4, despite security concerns flagged by bothKSCA and Karnataka Police. Sosale reportedly insisted that the event must happen immediately,or Kohli wouldn’t attend.
Free entry announcements resulted in massive overcrowding, but with minimal police presence,no crowd control systems, and another VIP event diverting security, the situation spiraled out of control.
Authorities severely underestimated public turnout, given RCB’s popularity and the emotionalhigh after their maiden title win.
The incident, which occurred on June 4, 2025, during the celebration at Bengaluru’sChinnaswamy Stadium, turned tragic when a stampede-like situation broke out due toovercrowding and poor crowd management. The chaos claimed 11 lives and left 56 othersinjured, ranging from minor to critical conditions.
The CID is set to submit a detailed report, with possible action against those responsible in thecoming days.
