In a dramatic development that adds fuel to the ongoing political storm in Andhra Pradesh, senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been arrested in connection with alleged illegal mining and misuse of explosive substances. This high-profile arrest is being seen by many as yet another ‘Red Book’ target accomplished, a reference used in political circles to describe the systematic crackdown on specific political figures in the state.

Govardhan Reddy, a prominent face in Nellore district politics, was arrested near Bengaluru on Sunday and brought back to Nellore, where he is currently being held under tight security at the District Police Training Centre (DTC). His name figures as Accused No. 4 (A4) in a case registered at the Podalakur Police Station, related to illegal quartz mining, unauthorized transport, and violation of explosive regulations.

What adds intrigue to the case is that Kakani had reportedly been in hiding for several months after the FIR was registered. With no public appearances and little information on his whereabouts, police had intensified search operations, ultimately tracking him down outside the state.

Security around the DTC remains tight, with media barred from entry and vehicles stopped a kilometer from the premises. He is expected to be produced in Venkatagiri court shortly. Political observers note that this arrest follows a pattern of high-profile actions seen in recent months, with the so-called “Red Book” narrative—alleging a hidden list of political targets—gaining renewed attention.
